Nabadwip Vidyasagar College was established in 1942 at Nabadwip , the birth place of Sri Chaitanya.
During the second world war when the Japanese army was bombing Calcutta then the famous Vidyasagar College of Calcutta was temporarily shifted to Nabadwip and Siuri (another town at district Birbhum).
After the war was over, original Vidyasagar College of Calcutta was shifted back to its original place at Calcutta, but the Vidyasagar College which started at Nabadwip, remained.
The “Goals and Objectives” of the college then, were to spread higher education inspired by the thoughts of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, a great scholar and social reformist of Bengal in 19th Century.
